At Austral College we understand that these skills may be intimidating, so we have developed our Office Essentials short course to teach you how to create simple workplace documents, spreadsheets and charts, and electronic presentations.

Overview

Upon successful completion of this course, you will have to skills and knowledge to:

  • plan and produce word-processed documents such as letters, meeting agendas and workplace forms and templates

  • design and produce spreadsheets and charts to display a range of data

  • create PowerPoint presentations for a variety or target audiences

This course is delivered via online tutorials, interactive online classrooms and individual trainer correspondence.

Course duration

For students with prior experience in a business environment, as a general guide, with 12 hours of coursework per week the course may be completed in 10 weeks. 

Students who do not have any experience may take longer.

Students require access to:

  • Computer with Microsoft Office or similar, Adobe Acrobat Reader, Flash Player

  • Internet 

  • Simulated office environment, e.g. desk, ergonomic chair, printer.

Admission requirements

This short course is designed for students with some prior work or life experience in the business services industry. 

During this course, you will be required to read comprehensive learner workbooks, undertake a range of written and practical assessments, undertake independent research, and engage in discussions.

Entry requires successful completion of year 10 level English. If you have not achieved this, you can demonstrate this knowledge by completing our pre-course Language, Literacy and Numeracy assessment.

A good knowledge of computer basics is desirable.
